Inspiration: My design mentor while I interned for Stafford King Wiese Architects was Brian Beck. Brian, a lead architect at SKW, helped me become proficient both in Revit and SketchUp CAD software. My daily tasks included creating details, renderings and cross-section views as well as edit floor plans for several projects the company was contracted to design.
One day, about half way through my internship with SKW, Brian instructed me to spend two hours each day designing a floor plan for a two-story residential home that would optimize natural ambient light while simultaneously keeping the majority of the home's interior away from direct sunlight during peak hours. The only other requirement was that the design had to have a raised foundation.
After about a month of working on the floor plans, Brian approved, and he instructed me to make a 3D model of the designs in SketchUp -this time with no additional requirements. This was the result. A4 two story, 4 bedroom home, 2 bathroom home. It has a large game room and sits on a raised foundation. There are minimal windows on the sides of the house that would face peak sun hours. Additionally, I implemented use of natural ambient light into my design through use of the skylights.
